Whole House Air Cleaners

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, indoor air can be between two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Up to 72 trillion allergens find their way into your home every day. The average American breaths about 3,400 gallons of air each day, which is why clean air in your home is so important. A typical one-inch filter traps larger particles to protect the heating and cooling system but doesn't trap many of the invisible particles. 99% of airborne particles are invisible to the naked eye. Media filters can be made with a wide rage of materials and are rated by a MERV system. Air filter MERV or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value is a measurement of the filtering efficiency of an air filter. The higher the number the more restrictive the filter, which in turn traps more particles. As an example, the Honeywell F100, which is a MERV 10, is 40 times more effective and up to 85% more efficient at capturing airborne particles compared to a standard one-inch filter. Pleated, high efficiency media filters need to be replaced less often, usually every six to twelve months. They have a larger surface area to capture microscopic particles like dust and smoke in addition to larger contaminants like mold spores and pet dander. 

The most effective whole-house air cleaners are electronic style cleaners. They capture up to 99% of the contaminents that pass through them. Electronic air cleaners or EAC's as they are commonly called feature a renewable metal filter so they can be washed as needed and rarely need replaced. And because they are designed to maintain excellent airflow, even under heavy load, you can always count on clean air circulating throughout your home. An EAC is an excellent investment for anyone who has severe allergies, hay fever and/or asthma. Also children are more likely than adults to be affected by polluted indoor air. They breathe faster and inhale more air per unit of body weight and are closer to the ground where adverse conditions are greater.
